3364 Honey Run Rd

Because our pictures do not materialize rapidly on this, our now outdated blog, I'll try to give you some commentary on our Honey Run dwelling. You know when people write stories and sing songs about what the first year of marriage is like and most people sigh deep inside because they know it is not really like that? Well, our little house has much that smells of those stories and songs. Besides a long and fertile green lawn that grows continuously there is also a postage stamp garden that grows continuously. At this point, the lettuce and sunflowers still out stand the weeds but probably don't outnumber them. Our landlady, Anne, said of our lettuce, "O, you will not eat it all." We are happy because our chickens, butternut squash baby plants, zucchini and potato plants seem to be striving for the white picket fence ideal whether we are or not.

So, walking around front of our little house, because chicken pen and gardens are in the back, we come to the long front room. The carpet is pretty light so you might want to take your shoes off. First of all, check out this crazy amazing bookcase made by Our Community Works, a project springing from Our Community Place. I like to just sit and read the titles over and over, remember the ones I've read and think about the ones I'll read:) as Philip reads The Hobbit out loud. On top of the book case is a picture of a tractor from Philip's past along with a book of Shakespeare. Along a wall is our Bench where we keep our laptop and play music. In one corner there is a high built in shelf with a little mirror and some Moroccan painted cups and a hanging metal lamp from Turkey. On the wall above two yellow velvet chairs also hangs a rug from Turkey. Between the two chairs is a windowed alcove inhabited by a great green plant given to Philip years ago. You can walk around to the little wood floor bed rooms, one for Stuff and one for sleep. Our bathroom is airy and looks out onto a farmers field and some pretty trees. We have a gas fireplace that is very little and easily forgotten; you might comment on it before you walk into the kitchen and comment on the little farmer's sink by the back door. It is porcelain and short and almost every woman who walks in thinks it is cute. Our kitchen is surely decorated to help one think of cupcakes because it is painted shades of light pink and white. On a sad day, however, it might make one's stomach refuse aforementioned cupcakes. Sadly, or happily, we were given a beautiful set of dishes that remind me of Cyprus tile but do funny things with the blue depending on your mood. It is a lovely room all together with room for a little table and fridge and all the necessities. We can't easily turn down guests and have already enjoyed many laughing dinner parties in our little house. O, even further, behind the kitchen, step down and enter the last little portion of our little house: where plants overtake the washer and drier. This is where we exit and enter when hanging clothes on the line, gathering the eggs or going out to roast coffee in our little coffee roasting, post-shoe repair shop.

Someday you just might see pictures of our little house... in a book you read to your children about happy people and their idyllic lives, but until that time we'll work on posting some of our own.

And now, the pictures (pre-bookcase):
