January in the year of our Lord 2011
December was a FULL month, full of rest and fellowship and alternative schedules. Our activities included visiting Jerusalem for the first time, learning Arabic lines and pretending like we were Mary and Joseph, renewing passports for three more months, transition from Fauzi Azar work to all our time going to Jesus Trail and NV, Handel’s Messiah performance, and MANY full meals around the holidays (our final one was the Sunday after New Year’s Day when we were invited to make a real Christmas dinner for a family we are just getting to know. We made ham, honey-baked chicken, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole and rolls. Our friend made salad and wonderful strawberry smothered cheesecake. Good fellowship and wonderful singing and worship afterward).
From 2010, we thank God for –
- Annaliese (even though we haven’t yet met her)!
- the great love and care we receive from people whose blood we share and people for whom our spirit’s say YIPPEE!
- a beautiful visit with Candice, Tom, Claire, Eliza, and Silas
- four months in a complex, beautiful land
- a God of HOPE and PEACE.
As we look towards 2011, we pray for –
- more clarity about how and when we are to connect with local people
- how and when to study language (this continues to be something we want but haven’t nailed down)
- more communication and vision about next Fall
- more of God's Spirit being LIGHT through us
Whoever you are reading this, may you know God's awesome faithfulness and peace in this New Year of our Lord, 2011. As our brother said to me recently, so I pass on to you as a new year blessing: "May Life and Light and Love come forth from Christ living in (ya'll)"!
