On a sunny Monday we found a little hilltop park in Staunton called Betsy Bell Park. We read Mark Twain aloud and had a lazy picnic before heading down into Staunton for some time at a coffeeshop, Baja Bean Co. for supper, and The Lorax at the small theater close to Beverly street.
On Wednesday we headed up Rt. 11 through a bunch of beautiful little towns, arriving at the quiet, tourist town of Harper's Ferry. We walked along the Canal, sat on the rocks right next to the Shenandoah River after it converged with the Potomac. After checking out our Top Room at the Stonehouse (1859), we went out looking for supper. We ended up getting pizza and eating it in the dark at the convergence of the two rivers as the warm evening breezes blew around us. The next day we hiked to the top of the cliffs above the railroad tracks and overlooking the old town of Harper's Ferry. (We heard many trains through the evening and night.)
On another note, we've enjoyed having the Mast family around for a little bit. The day before they left for OH, we had them over for a spring breakfast.
