We are in Palestine/Israel! We arrived early Tuesday morning, found our way to the train, on to the bus and off at Nazareth. By foot we finally arrived up thin streets in the Old City, sweaty and tired but so thankful for very smooth travels and many helpful and friendly people along the way.
We slept for around 14 hours in our "new" room, and when we woke we were swept along in the flow of the Fauzi Azar Inn. Breakfast (pita, lebnah, tomato, cucumber salad, mint/egg omelet) at the inn, an unique tour of the old city (spice shop, white mosque, greek orthodox church and cave, local coffee shop, 1000 year old home etc). We then did a little shopping on our own, buying pita and fruit at the sook (open air market) and falafals at a small shop. A short nap, then a haphazard training and we slept some more. We feel pretty good, however. Jet lag is not keeping us from starting work today (Thursday) at 7am! Really it is all just a continuing haphazard training. Everything is much more laid back than we are used to. Tomorrow we walk/find Nazareth Village and our schedule may start falling into place.
We've had trouble finding a suitable converter for our laptop especially as we arrived just as the Arabic holiday/fast Ramadan ends and the Jewish holiday Rosh Hoshannah begins. Many shops and conveniences are closed.
More descriptions will follow I'm sure along with pictures. So much to take in: other volunteers from around the world, guests and local staff, foods, beliefs, neighbors and city, duties and language.
