Play

Yesterday we spent almost 12 hours at NV. The first half was spent baking hundreds of pieces of flatbread over an open fire. The next half was spent practicing and acting in a Easter play. Danish volunteers, local children, NV staff, even two photographers from National Geographic participated! The crowd of onlookers was over 400! Beautiful local singers sang haunting Easter songs in Arabic. Philip played Judas (Conrad and Lynette, who sat in the front row did not even know it was him until we told them!), then the dead body of Jesus, then the angel bursting from the tomb. He had to stay in the sealed tomb for several songs and then had to push the stone open from the inside with a stick. I was Mary Magdalene. My signature scene was coming to the tomb with another Mary. We looked curious, then scared by the angel, then joyful to see hear the good news. Then we were supposed to take off running, but I really took off running, leaving the other Mary in the dust. I heard a few jokes about it later. The show was a smashing success.
